Last week I had the great opportunity of tasting and trying out the Asian Street Market at Trader Vic’s in Hilton Doha.
The night started off with some light gossip, ordering of drinks and really just catching up after the Eid holidays.
We met our lovely hosts who greeted us and spoke to us briefly about the concept. The restaurant wasn’t new to most of us which was an added advantage. If you haven’t been, let me describe it for you..
It has the delightful view to watch the sunset over the sea as you sip on your cocktail. Trader Vic’s is a combination of Asian-Polynesian fusion dishes which you can select from a wide range on their regular a la carte menu. To accompany your dinner, you get to enjoy colorful and lively music brought to you by their in-house vibrant live Cuban band.
As if this wasn’t enough!
I tried out their new menu for the month of September; Asian Street Market.
Here are some of my favorite dishes from this menu:
The Wasabi Prawns is super light and fresh making it the perfect way to start the meal. I love wasabi mayo so this was easily one of my favorites.
These chicken puffs were simply the best. They were hot and flavorsome which really hits a sweet spot on your palette.
I’ve had many variations of Pad Thai and this is definitely at par when it comes to flavor. The noodles were just right, not too sticky, nor dry. The portion is great for sharing and exactly how I like my meals to be.
Addressing mains has to start with a good protein; fish. I love trying out different combinations and this was just right. Hammour being a popular fish in Qatar means it’s often on many menus. Here, I found the combination of the scallion mash over the light glazed and perfectly cooked fish to be the one out of two of the winning main course dishes.
Hands down my favorite dish of the night. It was cooked to perfection! Sizzling with light smoke created a great deal of theater and anticipation for this beef dish. Watching it arrive to the table super hot, made my mouth water endlessly. The dish lived up to all my expectations!
To the end the lovely night came a trio selection of Asian desserts. However, my favorite was the Lotus Chocolate Tart topped with ice cream. If you love Lotus biscuits, you will love this one!
This is a must visit before 30 September 2016 to try out the versatile options for diners! Asian street flavors in luxury and comfort is my life goal! I’m going to miss it when it’s gone..
