Eid Al Fitr 2016

Did you know, Eid Al Fitr is the only day where Muslims aren’t allowed to fast?

Locally we like to celebrate Eid like any international holiday. Spending time with family, friends, food and gifts is a common factor. People like to decorate their homes and prepare mouth watering traditional dishes. This varies depending on where you are from but no meal is complete without biryani!

Eid festivities in Qatar are commonly spread around the idea of generosity and hospitality. First, it is common Qatari tradition for families to gather at the patriarchal home after the Eid prayers at 5am! Before the special Eid meal is served, young children will line up in front of each adult family member, who giveaway money as gifts to the children. Family members will also typically have a time where they will pass out gift bags to the children. These bags are often beautifully decorated and contain candies and toys.

The day’s fesitivites are incomplete without watching the impressive fireworks at Katara or Corniche.

If you’re away from home then here are a few things that can lighten up your Eid Al Fitr this year!

Here is our 5 to-do’s for the Eid break.

  1. Enjoy the hotel privileges for brunch and dinner offers. There are great deals on the high-end restaurants that you could visit and enjoy at reasonable rates.
  1. I am one of those people who prefer a fun fair to aimlessly roaming a mall, so you will definitely find me at the BAZAR SOUQ MAQTOORA at MEDINA CENTRAL in Pearl Qatar between 4pm-9pm
  1. Fireworks at Katara at 10.30pm on first day of Eid are a must!
  1. Get the fill Arabian vibe by horse riding at Al Samriya from 8.30am – 6pm with stage coach riding only for QAR 50 and Arabian Horse Tour for QAR 100!
  1. Been there, done that? Spice it up by scheduling a road trip visit to Al Dosari Zoo Shahaniya between 4pm-7pm. Try out one of the renovated sight seeing options in Qatar and tell us in the comments on your experience.

Funky Qatar Bloggers wish you and your family a very Happy Eid!
